IB Mission Statement
The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.
These programs encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
The International Baccalaureate (IBA) was founded in the 1960s as a non-profit educational foundation. The International Baccalaureate Organization is based in Geneva, Switzerland, and is recognized worldwide for high standards, articulated expectations, and rigorous curriculum. The IBA is an international symbol of academic integrity and intellectual promise and has participating schools in over 100 countries around the world.
Welcome to the IB Program at Amundsen High School. Amundsen has been authorized to offer the Diploma Program since 1999 and the Middle Years Program since 2003. In addition, we are currently seeking authorization to add the IB Career Program in the fall of 2018. The IB Program offers students an opportunity to have a well-rounded and rigorous college preparatory curriculum in a neighborhood school. The IB Program provides students with the discipline and skills necessary to take on future endeavors. Besides an excellent academic education that prepares them for post-secondary study, the IB Program gives students an opportunity to build character and perseverance to become future leaders in the community.
Incoming freshmen wishing to apply to the Amundsen IB Program need to complete an application via GoCPS. Transfer students interested in Amundsen's other IB Programs should contact the school directly.

Reflections from Amundsen IB Alumni
Reflecting back on my experience in the International Baccalaureate Program, I can say that I have grown not only as a student but as an individual. It gets more challenging every year, but then every year you grow and are more capable of managing a greater load of responsibilities. The IB experience is essentially about shaping students into well-rounded individuals, giving students other perspectives, and challenging them to experience the essence of every area of knowledge through every way of knowing.

What do I say about a program that has helped me to grow as both a scholar and a human being? There have been many challenges along the way, but those challenges have made me a stronger and better-rounded individual.
—E.D. (2004, graduated from Loyola University of Chicago B.A., 2008, J.D., 2011)
My IB experience has been challenging but exhilarating. I love learning with my classmates everyday and being challenged by my teachers. I am gaining very good experience for college and I am very glad that I was given this opportunity. The teachers are outstanding and I’m privileged to have them.
