World Language

¡Bienvenidos! Bienvenue! Welcome!

The World Language Department would like to extend a warm welcome to all students, parents, and community members. This site page contains course descriptions and faculty contact information.

At Amundsen we offer classes in Spanish for heritage speakers, Spanish for non-native speakers, and French. We have completely separate Spanish programming tracks for non-native and native speakers, which sets us apart from many other CPS schools.

In our department, we believe fully in the value of language learning both for its academic and cognitive benefits as well as the opportunities for personal growth it provides to students. In addition to the languages we teach, we have department members who also speak Romanian and Portuguese.

AHS's travel club in cooperation with the World Language Department, provide travel opportunities for all AHS students to travel abroad.  AHS also participates in Global Glimpse, runs a cultural exchange with a school in Baza, Spain, and participates in CAS student travel.  These travel opportunities allow our students to explore the world and use their language skills.

We are all avid travelers as a result of our language learning, and as a department, we have lived in or traveled to the following countries: Canada, México, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Panamá, Dominican Republic, British Virgin Islands, Venezuela, Colombia, Chile, Perú, Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Bolivia, Spain, Italy, Ireland, Norway, Portugal, Vatican City, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Poland, Denmark, Netherlands, Belgium, France, Hungary, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Lichtenstein, Luxembourg, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Turkey, Greece, United Kingdom, Russia, Georgia, Singapore, South Korea, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Australia, Cameroon, Chad, Central African Republic, Nigeria, Senegal, the Gambia, Mauritania, Morocco and Iceland!
