1) What are 2 of your future aspirations? 2) Explain how something that you learned from this year will help you be more successful in accomplishing one of those goals.

Your response needs to be in complete sentences and needs to be completed by Friday, May 1st at 3PM to earn the bonus ATL points. See my response:
1) One of my future aspirations is to have a better work- life balance. 2) Being forced to slow down due to Covid-19 and maternity leave have helped me to put my life priorities into perspective. Life at school ran fine without me while I was home with the baby. Also, realizing how short life can be (due to Covid-19) made me want to focus more on spending time with my loved ones and enjoying life since time is so precious.

How have you come to learn/confirm this quality about yourself? 2) What is one thing you are learning about institutions (schools, the government, healthcare system, etc.) related to these shifts? How have you come to learn this?

Your response needs to be in complete sentences and needs to be completed by Friday, April 24 at 3PM to earn the bonus ATL points. See my response:
1) The coronavirus shifts have helped to confirm that I really thrive from having structures and routines in my day. I have been able to figure this out because I tend to be extremely unproductive and cranky when I do not have a plan for my day because I tend not accomplish anything fully. As a result I feel less capable, which causes lower self confidence, irritability, and pessimism. 2) The coronavirus shifts have also confirmed that our healthcare system desperately needs reform. This is evident through countless examples: My sister and her co-workers have not been protected from the workplace hazards. Those without insurance or clout may not receive proper care or will receive much less expedient care and as a result some have even died. There aren't enough hospital beds and ventilators for all those that need it. I can go on and on...

This week's writing assignment is due on Tuesday 4/21 because technically we don't have class today (4/17) since it's a professional learning day for teachers. What 3 things/people you are grateful for today that perhaps you would have taken for granted a month ago? Explain why each thing/person is something you enjoy or is important to you.

Your response needs to be in complete sentences and needs to be completed by Friday, April 17 at 3PM to earn the bonus ATL points. See my response:
1) I am grateful for my family. My sister as a nurse works at a hospital here in Chicago. Though she's relatively young and healthy, she contracted Covid 19. After a rough 2 weeks, she was able to fight off Covid 19. It has been scary because my mom is considered a high-risk population, and she lives with my sister. Luckily, she was able to move to my brother's house before she contracted the virus. 2) I am grateful for my job. Many people I know have been furloughed, laid off, or had their wages reduced. I feel fortunate that I am able to still work and earn my normal wages during this time because financial strain would add to the uncertainty and anxiety of this time. 3) I'm grateful for my ability to hang out with friends. I miss spending time with the people in my life who have helped shaped who I am and who bring me joy. There's something that's just not the same when talking over FaceTime or gathering on Zoom.

If someone gave you $1,000, what would you do with the money (shelter-in-place rules do NOT apply!)? We all know saving is the smart thing, but imagine that you could just use it for fun. in Google Classroom

If someone gave you $1,000, what would you do with the money (shelter-in-place rules do NOT apply!)? We all know saving is the smart thing, but imagine that you could just use it for fun.

Hey all, just to lighten the mood a bit, answer this question of the day with a thoughtful response to earn 2 bonus AtL points. I'll add them to the lowest scoring AtL grade you currently have. My response to the question is below:

If someone gave me $1,000, I would buy a ticket to Reno, Nevada, rent a car, and hike in all the National and State Parks in California that I wanted to see: Redwood, Lassen, Yosemite, Death Valley, and Sequoia. Then I would end my trip in San Francisco (because I loveeeee that city) and I would fly home. Now, $1,000 wouldn't cover all of that. But, it would cover at least the transportation and some of the lodging.

Due:

What's making you stressed right now, and what helps calm you down when you're feeling stressed? in Google Classroom

What's making you stressed right now, and what helps calm you down when you're feeling stressed?

Stress is an unavoidable part of life: whether it's good stress (helping prep for a family party) or bad stress (studying for a big exam). And right now, everyone is dealing with a little extra stress. Labeling the thing that is making us stressed is the first step to responding thoughtfully to our feelings.

-Personally, I feel stressed about not seeing you guys and not knowing how you're doing. A meaningful part of my work is being able to check-in with you guys, and not having that every day is a tough change. I'm also still getting used to what's expected of us as we transition to e-learning, and that's been weird.

-I've been write out a schedule each night charting out what I'll do and for how long. The structure makes me feel like I'm using my time meaningfully. It might sound cheesy, but I'm also trying to do more positive framing. For example, instead of thinking "I have to cook dinner," I'll change it to "I get to eat something delicious that I made." I know, cheesy, but I'm surprised by how it brings up my mood just a little bit.

Can't wait to hear your thoughts! Remember, thoughtful responses will earn 2 AtL points towards a low-scoring AtL assignment.

Due:

What are you reading, watching, listening to, playing, and/or cooking? in Google Classroom

What are you reading, watching, listening to, playing, and/or cooking?

What's working for you right now? Have you been able to distract yourself with a movie? Find wisdom in a book? Lose yourself playing a game? Learn- or laugh- thanks to a podcast? Have fun at a digital gathering?

-Tonight I'm baking chocolate cupcakes from scratch for my best friend's birthday tomorrow (I can only drop them off at her house and watch her eat it through the window I suppose?).
-I just started reading "Little Fires Everywhere" by Celeste Ng because it's been on my reading list since the summer and now there's a show on Hulu (got to finish the book before I watch it!). Also, my friends are buzzing about "Tiger King" on Netflix, so I may check that out next.
-I've been listening to a mix on Spotify called "Isle of Calm" because it's light enough to play in the background as I try to get Llewyn to sleep.
-I keep telling myself I will exercise since I just got cleared from the doctor on Friday, but I haven't been motivated. I think rocking the baby counts, right? Maybe next week...

Share what you're into and/or thoughtfully respond to others to earn a couple ATL points to enhance a low grade.
