Due:
Please fill out the attached form as your last act for IB Biology. I would have done something like this on paper if we were in school, and you would have had an entire "exam" period to do it, so take your time. Your answers absolutely CANNOT hurt you, so please be honest.

Hi all, this is the week 12 check-in form. These forms started out as a genuine attempt to check in on you, then they got to be more of a formality, and in the last week or two, they've become a little bit tedious. HOWEVER, this one asks some real questions about how you're doing with everything going on around us, and I encourage you to tell me what's going on. The last day to submit school work is next Monday, June 8th, so this may be one of the last opportunities you get to let me know how you're doing. Thanks, and be safe.
Due:
We'll meet live today at 12:00. Join code: Voss_IBBio_5_29_2020
Fill out the Daily Accountability Tracker when you're finished.

No new work today. Finish up the Case Study and any other work you’d like to have counted toward your grade.
Complete the Daily Accountability Tracker. I might have messed it up yesterday, so today you’ll see both Wednesday and Thursday.

Attached are 3 additional articles that I think you should take a look at before Friday's meet. On Friday, I'll ask you to get together with your TASK group again and start formulating a plan that you think is the best way to get our country and society back to a more normal existence. These articles will provide some context for that.
Due:
Please submit the daily accountability tracker.
Due:
Thanks for trying that out today. I think it went about as well as I could hope - with just a few minor technical glitches that I'm aware of. Please give some feedback about the process/assignment/breakout rooms, whatever. If you have questions, comments or concerns, I'd like to hear them.
Due:
Please take 30 seconds to complete the daily student accountability form.
Due:
Open the document below title Focus Group Readings. Find your name in the list of focus groups, and then read the sources indicated for your focus group. Regardless of what focus group you are in, you will answer the questions in the second linked document titled Focus Group Questions - each of you has your own copy, so you can type your answers there, or write them out by hand and attach an image to this assignment.
Tomorrow at 12:00 pm, we will meet LIVE, and after a brief introduction, I'll send you to different breakout rooms where you will discuss your assigned readings and answers, and think about what it all means for us as we think about a plan for getting back to "normal." Each focus group will compile a collaborative resource using JamBoard which can then be taken by each focus group member back to your task group.
After meeting with your FOCUS Groups on Tuesday, we will have another LIVE meet on Wednesday at 12:00 pm. During the Wednesday Live meet, I will send you to different breakout rooms where you will meet with your TASK Group. Your task group will compile information from all four focus groups and work together to develop a plan for re-opening the country.
There are a lot of moving parts here, and I've never done it before so I'll ask for your patience, cooperation, and assistance if you can offer any. I did a trial run of breakout rooms yesterday with some volunteer classmates, and I think I've got it figured out. But - that's always when it comes back to bite you, right. Just when you think you've got it sorted out, something new goes wrong! So, please show up, participate, and be prepared to roll with a few punches. Obviously, anything that might delay the progress of the assignment can be taken into consideration and due dates or deadlines or expectations for final products can be adjusted as needed.
Whew. Done.

Hi, I can't really require you to do this, or even know if you have or have not. BUT, during the thing we're going to try tomorrow I'm going to have 8 windows open and you'll all be muted for me but able to talk to each other. I'll go over the process at the beginning of our live meet, but I'm planning to drop in on your meetings just like if you were working at tables in class and I come over to see how things are going and you have any questions. Aside from that, it will be nearly impossible for me to know if you have questions or anything. Try installing this extension which allows you to raise your hand (which I think I'll be able to see even if you're muted). If you know of a different one that another teacher is using or something, let me know.
Due:
Please fill out the form at the end of the day today (and every weekday).
Due:
I'm going to try this week to post this separately each day. I thought maybe it would be better to include as an attachment to each day's assignment, but students gave feedback suggesting that a separate post might be better so that you get notified and can mark it as complete when finished.
As was the case last week, I am asking you to spend 30 seconds per day doing this form, but I'd like you to do it every day. I'm attaching the video I shared last week that shows what and how I'm asking you to use it, and the form, which will take you to a form section for Today only.
This should take about 30 seconds or less. Let me know if you have questions.

Remember that we're live today at 1:00. It should be fairly quick. Please take a look at the "It takes a herd" assignment posted yesterday if you haven't done so - you don't need to finish it by 1:00 by any means, but I would like for you to have seen what's described there. Click on the Google Meet link below, and enter the meeting code: Voss_IBBio_5_8_2020
The digestion project is due today, and should be submitted by 11:59 pm.
OPTIONAL: I've created a PearDeck DBQ assessment which can be done optionally, and which can be entered in the Summative category. It will not hurt your grade if you decide not to do it or if you do poorly, but if you feel that your grade is being held back by lower scores in the summative category, you may choose to do this PearDeck. It is due by Sunday at 11:59 pm, and since it is an optional exercise, it cannot be turned in late after that time.
Lastly, like every M-F, please fill out the Accountability Tracker to document your engagement at the end of the day today.

Week 8! I can't believe it. As I hope you've heard, the way that grades are being handled is changing starting this week. There's a video embedded in the form that you may have already seen, but it's CPS Chief Education Officer making the announcement. Also, in light of those changes, and because a couple of you have requested more regular check-ins, I'm going to try out a new form this week that asks you to respond (very briefly) at the end of each day. I'll ask next week what you think of it. Stay safe. . ., and get to work!
Due:
Use the attached form to answer questions about Units 31 and 32. The form will close at 2:00 pm on Friday, April 24, 2020

The schedule has been updated, and is re-linked below. Work on Syllabus Statements 6.2.11 - D.4.S1.
We’re supposed to be “Live” today from 12:00 - 1:00. Here’s my plan. At 12:00 I’m going to post a video on Google Classroom. It’s my first attempt at a screen cast, and it could be a lot worse. . . I’ll just leave it at that. Then at 12:40 an automatically scheduled post will appear on classroom that invites you to a “Meet” where we can be live together. That can be a little bit of relaxed catching up, but if you want to make the most of it, you should also have some prepared questions based on the content of the week. Hope to see you there.

The unit map has been updated with resources for today. Complete SS&O's up through D.4.U1 (near the bottom of page 4).
Remember that I am sitting at my computer with the primary goal of responding to students via email or google chat from 12:00 - 2:00 (and I'll be sitting at my computer grading IA's for most of the rest of the day as well). Please ask questions if you have them.

This assignment will post at 11:45. It's my first attempt at a screen cast. It ended up being 37 minutes long, so if that's a good thing, you're welcome. If it's not, you can go to the settings in the video and speed it up. It just goes through some of the understandings from the week so far. If you can, watch it at 12:00 or earlier so that you're done by 12:40.
Another post will appear at 12:40 with a code to join a google meet - I'm hearing about some funny business, so please. . . . That Meet will go from 12:40 to 1:00 during which we can catch up and you can share what you've been up to and ask any questions that you have.
Hope to see you there.

I highlighted the SS&O's accordingly
-Green: These are things that we're not going to cover further, except for questions that you have. I think you should definitely finish those by tomorrow.
- Yellow: We touched on it today, and will look tomorrow at the Birds of Paradise to better understand. I hope you'll finish these so you'll have the contextual understanding to make the most out of tomorrow.
- Red: I mentioned it today, but we'll again look tomorrow. It's fine if you don't have these done.

Since there seems to be some anxiety about finishing SS&O's by tomorrow, I edited that assignment. I don't know if you get notified when I change something, so if not, look at the unit 26 assignment to see the mollifications. This is also a short DRQ.
You're welcome ;-|

You may revise your responses (on a newly printed test or separate sheet of paper), and I will award credit ONLY IF you can cite the correct answer from your SS&O's, the text, or the shared documents on genetic disorders. No outside research or searching for markschemes, just based on what we did and what I asked you to know.
Due:
Make a copy of the following document. Fill it out (thoughtfully and seeking help when needed) as you research your topic. Submit the completed document here when finished, before moving on to the next step.
