Introduction
Hello, my name is Edward (Ted) Nelson, and I am excited to start my fifth official year at Amundsen High School. Although this is only my fifth year, I worked as a temporary teacher for one year, and as a frequent substitute teacher for three years, so in reality, this is my ninth year working at Amundsen.
I received my undergraduate education at the University of Tennessee and my Masters at Western Illinois University in history. I worked as a claims examiner for several life insurance companies before returning to get a teachers certificate and an endorsement in special education. It was a long and winding road, but delighted that it took me to Amundsen High School.
Feel free to email me at [email protected] I am free during 1st, 4th, and 7th periods. Students can reach out to me via Google chat or email.
When not teaching, my passion is outdoor adventure and world travel. During long weekends and breaks I can be found canoeing, hiking, and skiing. This last summer, I traveled to Thailand, Malaysia, and Taiwan. In Thailand, I explored the ancient city of Ayutthaya, visited four incredibly beautiful national parks, and stayed at two gorgeous islands in Phuket and Koh Samui. Koh Samui is famous for being the setting of White Lotus season three.

Three summers ago, I returned to world travel in a big way with a five week, seven country epic adventure through Africa. I visited South Africa, Eswatini (formerly Swaziland), Mozambique, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Zambia. I saw the big five (lion, leopard, rhino, elephant, and Cape buffalo), I swam on the lip of Victoria Falls, a world wonder, and swam with dolphins in Mozambique. I blog about my adventures at Traveling Ted.
