The Amundsen Science Department seeks to provide a challenging 21st Century education that prepares students for college and allows them to function as responsible and contributing members of society.  The courses offered are inquiry-based laboratory classes that incorporate critical thinking skills, technological applications, cooperative learning, interdisciplinary themes, and problem-solving techniques.
 

All students are expected to graduate with 3 years of science. Biology, Chemistry, and Physics are graduation requirements for all CPS students. In our program, the student takes Biology as a freshman, Chemistry as a sophomore, Physics as a junior, and can take electives as a senior.

Our school hosts an annual STEM fair, in which many of our students continue onto the City and State level competitions. The participation in STEM fair is a required part of the curriculum for some of our courses but any student at Amundsen is welcome to take part in this event. This year our school STEM fair is expected to take place on December 3rd 2025. Students that would like to take part in the STEM fair please reach out to Ms. Sikora or Ms. Sarhan as soon as possible. Parents, Guardians, and Community members that would like to support us in judging please reach out to Ms. Sikora.
