PARENT SERIES | April Book Club (In-Person)
We hope you can join us for our April Parent Series Book Club on Tuesday, April 7 at 6:00 PM at Amundsen. This month, we will be discussing Good Inside by Dr. Becky Kennedy, a widely regarded guide that shifts parenting from control-based approaches to connection-driven, empathetic, and resilience-building strategies. Even if you have not had a chance to read the book, all are welcome to join the conversation as we focus more broadly on parenting teens.
JOIN US | Friends of Amundsen (FOA) Monthly Meeting
Friends of Amundsen will hold their monthly meeting on Monday, April 13 at 6:00 PM at Amundsen. This is a great opportunity to stay informed, connect with other families, and get involved. FOA currently has an open board seat along with several committee opportunities. If you are looking for ways to support the school community, we encourage you to attend and learn more.
VIKING VILLAGE | Monday Meetup
After the FOA meeting, please join us for our final Monday Meetup of the year at 7:00 PM at Gio’s (4857 N. Damen). This is a great chance to connect with fellow Viking families in a more informal setting. Throughout the month of April, Gio’s will also be donating a portion of point-of-sale proceeds from all customer receipts to FOA, so your visit continues to support our school community.
CELEBRATIONS | Science Shout Out
We are proud to recognize our Viking scientists for their outstanding performance at regional and city competitions. Amundsen students will advance to represent CPS at the 2026 IJAS State Science Exposition, taking place April 24–25 at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
Students advancing in Poster Presentations include: Elliana C., Elena D., Ashley E., Yasleen G., Ramona H., Jeanine V., and Noah W.
Students advancing in Symposium Presentations include: Lane M., Elise C., Colton L., and Sophia M.
In addition, our Science Olympiad JV team earned 3rd Place in Anatomy and Physiology at regionals.
Congratulations to all of our students and their teachers for this impressive work!
GLOBAL CITIZENS | Senior Spring Break Trip to Europe
A big thank you to our students who participated in the international senior trip over spring break and represented Amundsen so well. Students had the opportunity to explore France (Paris, Lyon, and Beaune), and Switzerland (Lausanne), taking in historic landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower while learning about the rich history and culture of the region through visits to castles, cathedrals, and museums.
We are especially grateful to Ms. Hanus for the extensive planning that made this experience possible. For families of current juniors, please be on the lookout for future communication regarding Spring Break 2027 travel opportunities.
CREATIVITY, ACTIVITY, SERVICE | IB Trip to Bordeaux, France
Over spring break, students in the IB Diploma Programme traveled to Bordeaux, France for a cross-cultural service learning experience combined with full language immersion. Students engaged in French language instruction, service-based projects, and guided cultural experiences throughout the city.
This type of experiential learning reflects the core of the IB Programme, and we commend our Vikings for representing Amundsen with pride while participating in such a meaningful opportunity.
OPPORTUNITY | CPS Summer Internship Program (Applications Open)
Applications are now open for the 2026 CPS Summer Internship Program. This is an excellent opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience, build professional skills, and develop connections with employers across a range of industries, including business, government, and community-based organizations.
This summer, CPS aims to connect over 1,400 students to paid internships aligned to their career interests.
