On behalf of the entire Amundsen staff, I am excited to welcome you to the 2025–2026 school year! We look forward to seeing our students return this week and to welcoming our new families into the Viking community.

This year, our weekly parent newsletter will be managed by Mr. Williams, Assistant Principal. Mr. Williams will provide you with timely updates and key information to help you stay connected and engaged throughout the school year.

Dear Viking Families,

I am honored to serve as the new Assistant Principal at Amundsen. This is my 13th year at our school, and I could not be more excited to step into this role.

Over the years, I have had the privilege of working with our students, families, and staff in many different capacities, and I look forward to continuing that partnership in even greater ways.

One of my key responsibilities will be keeping families connected and informed. Each week, I’ll share this parent newsletter with important updates, upcoming events, and highlights from our Viking community. My goal is to make sure you always feel in the loop and have easy access to the information you need.

Highlights from Our Parent Information Session

Thank you to all the parents who joined us for our virtual Back-to-School Information Session. We reviewed important topics including student schedules, technology and security procedures, attendance expectations, and upcoming events for the fall semester. If you were unable to attend, you can view the full presentation deck here: Back to School SY26. We’re excited to work together to make this a great year for all our Vikings!

Student Programs

Student schedules are available on Aspen. Schedules may change due to leveling and/or to ensure federal, state, CPS and CTU are met. Students who wish to request a schedule change will be able to do so via the following Google Form: Program Change Request. Changes based on preference of teachers, preferred lunch periods, and classes during specific periods will not be approved.

E-Absence | Reporting Absences Made Easy

You can now submit, schedule, and track student absences through the Aspen Parent Portal.   This means no more making last-minute phone calls or completing paper forms. You can sign in to your account at aspen.cps.edu and start using the E-Absence feature today. If you don’t have Aspen access, please contact the mail office to register for an account today.

NEW | Student Microwaves

This school year, microwaves are available in the cafeteria for student use before the start of the school day, during lunch hours, or after school. Students are not to use microwaves throughout the school day.

Student Fees for 2025-26

Student fees have been assessed to all accounts for the new school year. Because 99% of our budget goes toward personnel costs, these fees are essential to covering operating expenses and keeping our school running smoothly. Clubapalooza 2025

Join us on Thursday, August 28 at 3:00 p.m. on Amundsen’s front lawn for Club-a-Palooza! This annual event is the perfect opportunity to explore the wide variety of clubs and activities AHS has to offer, meet student leaders, and find ways to get involved. Don’t miss it!

LSC Vacancies

We are currently looking to fill three LSC vacancies for the 2025-26 school year:

One parent representative, and two community representatives. We invite all interested candidates to attend the September LSC meeting on Tuesday, September 16, at 6pm in the Amundsen library to speak briefly on their qualifications and interest in serving on the LSC. Homecoming Golf Classic | 9/28/2025

Sponsored by the Amundsen Athletic Foundation, sign up as a foursome or individually. Prized for closest to the pin and longest drive.
