News & Announcements
This past week the Amundsen High School community got a welcome respite from the spring rains while attending Amundsen's Spring Music Concerts. On Tuesday, our orchestra performed several works following Chappell Elementary School's amazing performance. On Wednesday, the Amundsen Chorus and Band took over the stage and wowed us with their solo and group performances. Thank you so much to Orchestra Director Mr. Sean Reidy, Band Director Mr. Omar Fong-Bances, Chorus Director Mr. William Spain, Chamber Ensemble Director Mr. Gregory Caswell and members of the Chicago Civic Orchestra for your hard work and dedication to our students!
Congratulations to Ms. Elvia Lopez on being honored by the Illinois School Counselor Association this past Thursday. We are excited to hear that several Amundsen Freshmen in our IB MYP Japanese Language program participated in Japan Bowl at North Central College last Saturday. Japan Bowl is an academic competition for high school students who are studying Japanese across the state of Illinois. Since there was no official competition for Level 1, students participated in the Level 2 practice round this year. They did a great job and already look forward to competing next year. Congratulations to all of the students and to their teacher, Ms. Kameyama, for their hard work and dedication to the study of Japanese language at Amundsen High School. Great job!

Congratulations to Syed A., Amy E., Rubens G., Matthew G., Angie L. and Elise N. for earning the Dan and Patricia Jorndt Joy of Learning Scholarship. We also want to give a big shout out to Ms. D. Barba, Ms. M. Kennedy and Ms. T. Nguyen for winning the Dan and Patricia Jorndt Joy of Teaching Award. The award ceremony will take place at Amundsen on May 21, 2019. Let Amundsen Design students offer a solution! On May 17th, AHS Design students will compete in our 3rd annual Makeathon where they will offer solutions to everyday problems proposed by stakeholders in our community. We are looking for stakeholders to work with our students on these projects as their teams utilize the design process to innovate and iterate a solution. Stakeholders communicate with students 3 times to describe the problem and to offer feedback on prototype solutions. They are also invited, but not obligated to participate in the judging process on May 17th. Interested stakeholders should contact Aleksander Rusic of Amundsen’s Dyson team at firstname.lastname@example.org. Parents, staff and community members are all welcome to participate. Thank you for your support!
