Due:
Read and annotate the chapter for class discussion on Friday. NOTE: The first three chapters likely will be some part of the final for this class. Make sure to catch up on reading if you are behind.
Due:
In class and in small groups, watch the videos and review the Vox article about Sam Bankman-Fried and the collapse of the FTX cryptocurrency firm. Then work to answer the question prompts and be prepared to discuss your thinking in class.
Due:
Use notes and previous work to complete these income statements. You may work with a (as in one) partner, but everyone should turn in their own copy. You should TRY to create and use formulas.
Due:
Work individually and with your teams to assess how your customer discovery work went last week. This of that initial effort as a first draft. How can you move forward with the project based on what you learned? Was the data collected robust and useful? If not, how can you pivot? What are next steps?
Due:
In your own words, define each of these terms, vocabulary designed to familiarize yourself with various terms that you will come across throughout this unit.
Due:
You may use any resource to complete this quiz — notes, classwork, items in Classroom, etc. You MAY NOT work with anyone else or share answers.
Due:
Read the attached article going through startup revenue models and complete the revenue streams assignment. Due before class tomorrow — be prepared to discuss theories and models.
Due:
THIS IS ENTIRELY OPTIONAL!
If you watch the movie The Big Short and write at least a one-page review, due by next Sunday, you can earn up to 30 formative points. NO LATE WORK ACCEPTED!
Write in complete sentences and understand that spelling and grammar count. Must be written in 10-point Arial with 1.5 spacing — no large type or double spacing.
This movie is based on a book by Michael Lewis about the housing market collapse that destroyed the global economy in 2008. Some of it will be a little hard to understand probably, but it still pretty approachable — I personally think it’s a very good movie adaptation and would love to show it in class, but probably can’t get away with it.

Due:
Use the Customer Interview Tracker tool to interview five people — you can use classmates in this class, friends, family, or whomever is available. Use this as a practice round before beginning actual customer discovery. After the exercise, reflect on what you would change, augment, or modify. Are your questions open and tailored to data gathering? Are you facilitating conversation well? Are there problems or feedback from the customers that should be incorporated?
You will use this work to begin actual discovery this week.
You will use this work to begin actual discovery this week.
Due:
Read the sources on the Google Doc and use them to think critically about entrepreneurial decisions and outcomes. The linked Vox article may help your thinking some.
Due:
Working with your teams — though you should turn in individual copies of the assignment — work to develop a better understanding of the marketplace and competition for school desks. Be ready to discuss in class on Wednesday.
Due:
In your desk teams, you will begin to put together a data collection strategy this week. Using our understanding of consumer culture, customer psychology, and how companies bring products to market, you will devise a mechanism for collecting how consumers — students at Amundsen — see the desk idea as a viable entrepreneurial endeavor. The questions you ask and the way you do it — Google Form, person-to-person, social engagement, text/app chains, etc. — are up to your team to determine. The attached document will help organize your thinking, but doesn't have to be followed precisely.
Due:
Thinking about Elizabeth Homes, read the attached excerpt and view the linked charts. Put on your entrepreneur/problem-solver's hat and discuss the following question with your team, then answer with your thinking on the index card and turn it in to the basket.
QUESTION: Does Elizabeth Holmes have an excuse in her actions and leadership based on how women founders are treated from an equity perspective. Why might she be justified or forgiven for her actions? Why is her circumstance no excuse?

Due:
This is a take-home quiz — summative grade — to be completed by Sunday night. You can use any resources at your disposal — all of the answers can be found in Classroom and your work so far this semester — to answer the questions. You may NOT discuss or complete answers with classmates. This should be your own work.
Due:
You will be assigned a portion of the attached article to read in assigned teams and will have time to discuss in those groups. We’ll then break down the reading as a class. Each team should designate a notetaker and a speaker. You will present your portion to class and help lead the discussion on the topic. You all should take notes on other presentations — notes and summary due Sunday night.
Due:
Please take a moment to answer this before class today — the first question in particular — and the rest after class. Ms. Murray will be in 2nd and 3rd periods for sure, so do the best you can. You only have to do the Form once.
Due:
This is a reminder to read — and annotate as needed — the handout introductory chapter from What To Ask by next Tuesday’s class. We will use it for discussion in class.
Due:
In class we will watch the video together and you will answer the questions on the Google Doc. As you answer, contemplate the desk project. Is this a traditional business project or a startup effort? Which would make more sense? Be prepared to discuss thinking.
Due:
Working with your desk design teams, work to answer the questions on the Google Doc.
Due:
Use your research to complete a Google Slides presentation — yes, you will present it in class — on your chosen entrepreneur. Even if you've done something similar in the past, you should be able to explore some new dimensions of your person. Why did you chose them? How are they making an impact? Are they a person you respect, or merely a successful businessperson? What should we know about them on a deeper level?
Your presentation should include a cover screen and a citations screen at the end and have at least eight additional Slides (minimum of 10 total pages). It should be at least 3 and no more than 5 minutes in length — not including questions and feedback.
Duration and number of Slides - 10 points
Presentation and depth of knowledge - 10 points
Quality of Slide show (creativity, thoroughness, information presented) - 20 points
Sources and citations - 10 points

Due:
Follow the directions on the Google Doc and begin to research an entrepreneur you either admire or would like to know more about. You will use this information to create a presentation in the form of a Google Slides show.
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO HAVE THE SLIDES COMPLETED TODAY! This is just the start of the research process and figuring out who to focus on. I will have more details on expectations and due dates when I return.

Due:
After the pitches are complete, you will each individually assess how it went and what the team process was like.
Due:
In creating a product the marketplace might not yet know it needs, you'll need to develop an argument to convince the marketplace. Begin that here with this Slides deck. Working with your team, refine ideas and begin to put a cohesive narrative to your problem and solution. You may share work on this Slides project — but each turn in your own version for grading purposes. You also should work to come up with a design sketch of your most recent iteration of your project and add it with any descriptions necessary as a Slide.
Due:
Use your discussions and class feedback to answer the Google Doc questions.
Due:
We will watch the linked video on design thinking as a class. Consider some of the questions and viewpoints used in the process. You'll then use the information from the IDEO process to problem-solve around the issue below.
In assigned groups, you will tackle the problem described in the link - a chronic and critical system of failures of the water treatment and supply in Jackson, MS. Your job is to think creatively as a group to find as many solutions as possible. These will then be reviewed by other groups to offer feedback and for class discussion. Each group should have one recorder and one speaker. Turn in your notes/ideas work at the end of class. Make sure all team names are included on the sheet(s).

Due:
Read the article — annotate as needed — and complete the quiz. As you read, think about what it means to be an entrepreneur. Be prepared to discuss.
Due:
You will have Monday and Tuesday to work on this assignment, so please take your time and be thoughtful and thorough. Simply stating a problem without going into some level of detail won't be sufficient.
Due:
In class we'll watch a short video on branding and neuroscience and read a short article on the psychology of branding. Thinking about the personal brand affiliation survey and discussion from Tuesday, use the information in the video to reflect on brand recognition. On a piece of paper you can turn in, focus on one or two brands you identified with in our survey and reflect on how you think you brain has been manipulated (note: this isn't always a bad thing). Some questions to ponder:
Have you noticed this happening?
Are there safeguards you can use to protect your self determination?
What cues or clues can you use to pick up on changing thinking patterns that come from brand messaging?
Added link to 1984 commercial below.
