Amundsen Math Team tied for 2nd in Div. B at DeVry Site for CCML
Algebra I Team placed 1st, and Precalculus took 2nd. Jonnathan Castillo and Faiza Mistry tied for 2nd in Algebra I; Cecilia Agyapong, Elizabeth Bonilla, and Steve Tobar tied for 3rd in Algebra I; David Weatherston took 2nd placed in Geometry; and Asher Stuhlman took 1st in Precalculus Accelerated.
Amundsen H.S. Class of 2008 was awarded $1,669,800 for postsecondary education.
2008 IB Diplomas
Congratulations to the following students for earning the pretigous IB Diploma: Jillian Avila, Klaire Desuyo, Raluca Hulea, Kiara Montoya and Sandy Morales. A total of 99 IB Certificates were earned by Amundsen students this year.
Parent Survey Raffle Winners.
The following parents/guardians of Emina Alic, Sean Carberry, DeAndre Knight and Kisa Mohammed won a raffle for a target gift card for their participation in the CPS My Voice, My School Parent Survey.
Amundsen IBMYP Students attend Holocaust Remembrance Day Program and Luncheon.
Several Amundsen IBMYP Freshmen recently attended a Holocaust Remembrance Day program and luncheon sponsored by the Mayor's Office of Special Events. The annual event, held this year on April 17th at the new Spertus Museum, gives students an opportunity to listen to and learn from Holocaust survivors while honoring those who died in the genocide. The students recently completed a unit of study on the Holocaust and other 20th Century genocides as part of their World Studies course. The Dan and Pat Jorndt "Joy of Teaching Award"
Congratulations to Ms. Maggie O'Gara, Mr. John Evans and Mr. Antwan Babakhani for winning the 2008 Dan and Pat Jorndt "Joy of Teaching Award". The award assembly will be on May 1, 2008, 2nd period at Amundsen.
The Dan and Pat Jorndt "Joy of Learning Award"
Congratulations to the following students for winning the Dan and Pat Jorndt "Joy of Learning Award": Rohail Dean, Klaire Desuyo, Candis Holiman, Andrew Khudytskyy, Trina Lama and Kayla Rivera. The award ceremony will be at Amundsen on May 1, 2008, 2nd period.
Local Teachers Receive National Recognition
Tanya Baxter and Frances Szymanski of Amundsen High School, have been selected from a national applicant pool to attend two of 27 summer study opportunities supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities. The Endowment is a federal agency that each summer supports seminars and institutes at colleges and universities so that teachers can study with experts in humanities disciplines. Congratulations to the Amundsen Math Team
The Amundsen Math Team finished off the season with a strong finish, coming in second place in our division. The following students won individual ribbons: Brian Perez - 4th in Algebra, Nilay Patel - 4th in Algebra 2, Asher Stuhlman - 5th in Algebra 2. Additionally, the following team awards were earned: 1st place in Algebra 2, 2nd place in Algebra 1, and 3rd place in Geometry.
Congratulations Fidel Gurrola for winning the CPS Scholarship to the University of Chicago
Fidel Gurrola is one of only five students in CPS to win the CPS Scholarship to the University of Chicago. As a CPS scholar, Fidel has earned full tuition ($36,891) that is renewable annually from the Unvisersity of Chicago. Mr. Gurrola has also been accepted to Yale University, Northwestern University, Stanford University and the University of Pennsylvania.
