Design & Innovation 1-1 (Period 1)

Course Description

The Design and Innovation class will ask you to Think, Observe, and Make. It will include aspects of visual arts, computer design, technology, and engineering. You will be introduced to new media, materials, and techniques. Additionally, you will learn how to safely use various hand/power tools, create blueprints, design in a computer software, as well as manufacture objects in  a computer controlled laser cutter, 3D printer, replicator, CNC machine, as well as vinyl cutter. This space will promote creativity, exploration, collaboration and problem solving.  

 

After completing this course, you should be able to:

  • Safely use various hand/power tools
  • Work in collaborative setting
  • Produce and read blueprints
  • Understand isometric drawings
  • Understand the Design Cycle
  • Construct prototypes and modify such accordingly
  • Design objects and products using tools such as 3D printers, and laser cutters.
  • Design and prototype educational toolkits for science, math, robotics, as well as interactive toys.
