Course Description: Biology II is a two semester class designed for the students that are interested in science and/or intending to pursue further education after high school. This class is NOT required for any student. As a prerequisite, all students must have earned a “C” or better in General Biology or Honors Biology. This class will focus on the plant and animal kingdoms, and their structures and functions. These topics were covered in a single quarter in the General Biology class. In this class, they will be the focus for the entire year. As a result, the amount of detail will be much greater in this course. While studying plants and animals, students will learn the functioning organ systems of each group, as well as classification and identification of Illinois species. Students will relate the biogeography of Illinois to its native habitats and species that thrive there. Students will be expected to perform all labs, do a moderate amount of reading outside of class (1-2 chapter units), and take weekly quizzes covering vocabulary and terminology.

Supplies: 3-ring binder for this class only (recommended, but not required), paper, writing utensils, colored pencils (24 or more), latex gloves are optional, but a good idea for the dissections. Other supplies may be required at a later date. Students will be notified a couple weeks in advance whenever this is the case.
Homework/Make-up Policy: It is the student’s responsibility to obtain any missed handouts, notes, assignments, etc. from fellow students or teacher. Students must make arrangements with the teacher to make up tests, quizzes, and laboratory activities before or after school and must be done by the end of the current unit. Work after the Unit grade cannot be accepted.
Grade Scale: A 90-100 B 80-89 C 70-79 D 60-69

Grades will be posted on Student Portal/Gradebook as soon as possible, Grades will be a combination of all assignments, quizzes and tests.
Acceptable Use Policy: There will be times throughout the year when students will use the internet in class for research as well as for online activities
Extra Credit: Some extra credit will be available. I will NOT allow extra credit on an individual basis. Any extra credit opportunities will be given to the whole class.
Classroom Expectations: Students are expected to…
- Treat everyone with respect – This includes yourself, other students, and the teacher.
- Arrive promptly - if your body is not in the door by the last bell you are tardy.
- Be prepared to learn – come to class with all materials and the attitude to succeed.
- Use the restroom before or after class- passes to use the restroom will not be given during class, but I am a reasonable person and if an emergency arises please talk to me.
- Treat the lab equipment with respect and to use it for its intended purpose.
- Do not use cell phones during class for ANY purpose without permission– I will give a verbal warning for the first offense to put the phone away. If problems still occur after the verbal warning, the cell phone will be confiscated.
- Do not use Ipods, MP3 players, etc. unless teacher gives permission at appropriate times and for appropriate reasons.
- Do not bring food or drink to class (except water bottles).
- Use your time wisely – there is always something academic you could be doing if there is down time, after all we are in school and you have 7 classes.
- Treat classroom pets with respect. Unauthorized “attention” will not be tolerated.
