1. Read the written intro below

2. Watch the attached video of an activist responding to George Floyd's death/murder

3. Respond freely and respectfully to the video - use the questions I post below to help. You are not required to answer all of these questions, but merely use them to start thinking about your response.

*READ INTRO: The killing of George Floyd by police in Minnesota reminds us of the similar circumstances – “I can’t breathe” – of the killing of Eric Garner by police in New York not long ago. And then it reminds us of the killing of Philando Castile by police also not long ago. George Floyd’s death comes hard on the heels of the execution of Ahmaud Arbery by vigilantes who apparently thought that this is what one does when acting as police and confronted by a Black male jogger.

These more recent incidents are frustrating evidence that this pattern of police disregard for Black lives shows no signs of diminishing in spite of national outrage and demands for reform. And toxic white attitudes about fearsome Black men are embedded throughout society and not just in the police. What is systemic racism and why does it still exist? How can we trust a police system that kills those they vow to protect and serve?

Some of us are privileged to be able to bemoan this as another drumbeat in a sad world, something to deplore and promise to work on. But then we move on to the next news cycle. Others of us, however, do not have that kind of privilege in our society. People of color cannot just "move on." They must face this reality every time they go outside, drive their cars, send their loved ones to school or the store or the park or work or church. And as the Breonna Taylor slaying a few weeks ago teaches, this reality even invades the “safety” of one’s own home.

**Questions to help you respond to the video:
1. React to the video in general - reference things that the activist says
2. What is systemic racism (hint: look up systemic)? How was it formed and how does it affect us now?
3. How do racism and COVID connect?
4. Thoughts on peaceful protests vs. riots
5. What is the solution? Immediate solutions vs. long term solutions
6. Have you ever been afraid around a cop? Have you ever felt victimized by the police? Why or why not?
7. What can "good cops" do to help alleviate racist attacks by society and the police fraternity?
Please read all directions in the attached assignment. There are 3 steps you must follow (watch the video, re-read the story, and fill out the character arc). The link to the video is attached within the assignment. If you watch the entire video, then you should be able to finish the story arc without any problems (the video is clutch!). This is your last assignment for the week.
